Peng Peng captures the hearts of all who meet him. He has had the continual challenge of hydrocephalus for all of his young life & yet remains cheerful & brave. Donations from supporters have funded the surgeries that Peng Peng has needed. He is now a very active little boy and is attending local preschool.
A number of our supporters are familiar with Mihrigul's story. Abandoned as a baby after her father tried to kill her & maimed in both legs, Mihrigul was raised in a local sanatorium where she was treated with love & kindness but where her future held little hope for opportunities. My first encounter with Mihrigul was unforgettable, I was so impressed by the cheerfulness & dignity in this lovely young lady & hoped that Good Rock would be given permission to help her get on in life. Four years on Mihrigul qualified as a talented seamstress but still found getting around on her crutches limiting & uncomfortable. We offered Mihrigul the chance for a prosthetic leg & knowing this road would at first be painful she took some time to decide to go ahead. The lhealing process has been arduous however Mihrigul is now able to stand tall & walk with elegance. She is enjoying life at a womens' sewing co-operative and we sell the quilts that she makes. Qi Qi was abandoned in a department store & during his medical check was found to be HIV positive. At first Qi could not speak due to his trauma but once he found his voice he told us that his mother had died & his father gone after travelling from a far away province with Qi. We were able to find a loving foster grandma for Qi who is unconcerned with the stigma surrounding Qi's condition. With the help of The Clinton Foundation Qi became the first orphan recipient for HIV/AIDS treatment in Xinjiang. Some of his medication is free but his long term liver treatment & health screens are an expensive monthly commitment. Thank you to Nathalie Defoin & our supporters in Belgium for the funds raised for Qi who is now in much better health with a good prognosis. We hope to help more children like Qi.
