Our History
The Good Rock Foundation was established in 1997 and is a British-registered charity. We first visited China's orphanages in that year and were given opportunities to help improve conditions for some of the children there.
From this small beginning we began to visit more often. We established trusting relations with the authorities, working with them on joint ventures to develop long-term sustainable projects that would offer more help to the children, as well as encourage the child carers in their challenging task and offer life beyond existence in an institution.
We believe that with our philosophy of care and a mutually respectful relationship with China's social services we can begin to address the issues that are at the root of the plight of China's abandoned children. We advocate foster family care, small community-based homes and assist local childless families in adoption.
The Early Support Units within our community centre's will offer critical care to newly found babies and children and in time offer the wider local community health care and family support. Our aid in China is backed up with local representation to make our help relevant to the people we are working for.
We invest in child-carer training so that the children receive the nurturing they need for a healthy, happy childhood and the local orphanage workers receive the encouragement they need to meet the challenges of their work.
A Chinese proverb states 'Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him to fish and you feed him for life'. We respect the culture we work in and the people working alongside of us. These people have surmounted many obstacles in many difficult decades, what is needed now is help them to help themselves. This is what The Good Rock Foundation is committed to.

Development of our new project "Spread Their Wings'.
Focusing on the needs of the disabled young adults in foster care. These young people came to foster care as children. We want to keep them in their communities, they can & will be capable, connected, contributing members of their society. Our plan is to open a community day care centre where the young people can enjoy creative activities & learn valuable skills for independence.
